Sahidul Alom Choudhury was born on 13th December 1946 in a well known Choudhury family of Algapur in Hailakandi district of Assam. He was born to mother Late Samsun Nessa Choudhury and father Late Abdul Latif Choudhury.
He started his political carrier as a councilor from Algapur GP in the year 1977. He has been elected as a Member of Legislative Assembly from Algapur Constituency as an independent candidate in the year 1985. Later, he joined the AGP and became a minister of state in the department of municipal administration in the first AGP government. In 1996, he became the minister for panchayat and rural development when the AGP again came to power. He was an MLA till his death, 20 November, 2012. He has established many educational Institutions, including two Degree Colleges for access of education mainly for the students of remote areas.
